Marc Jacobs Dew Drops

Marc Jacobs Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter

Have you guys seen the new Farsali Jelly Beam highlighter? It is STUNNNING. I legit contemplated for 3 hours back and forth whether to get it or not. Then I decided that I obviously didn’t need yet another highlighter. But to satisfy my insatiable desire for a highlighter,  I decided to rummage through my collection. I didn’t have to rummage long before I stumbled across my Marc Jacobs Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter. And it reminded me that even though I’d fully flaunted it on my IG (if you’re not following me yet, whyyyy aren’t you? ), I hadn’t actually done a proper blog post on it. So even though this product has been out for a while, as a #throwbacktuesday type thing, I’m doing this review today.

Marc Jacobs Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter – Packaging

Marc Jacobs Dew Drops

You know we always gotta start with the packaging. Let’s not pretend that that isn’t the first thing that either draws us in or turns us off from a product. It’s a gorgeous glass bottle that is also quite sturdy. You may dare to travel with it as long as you take it with you in a bubble wrap lined pouch or something (you know those amazing Glossier pouches you get with every purchase). It has a pump! The nature of this highlighter is such that you only need verrryy little product at a time and the pump and nozzle are fantastic in that they dispense a very controlled amount of product. The glass bottle is sort of a semi-frosted finish, the cap is white and the whole package together makes for a very aesthetic sight.

Marc Jacobs Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter – Price and Availability

This highlighter retails for $44.00 (USD) for 0.8 oz. The quantity is more than generous because unless you start using this as a body highlighter, I don’t see how anyone can go through a full bottle. It is available at several stores in the States, I’ll link the Sephora availability.

Marc Jacobs Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter – Formula

So what exactly is this ‘coconut-gel highlighter’?

What it is:
A lightweight, coconut-infused gel highlighter that can be applied to skin directly or added into foundation or primer for a universally flattering glow.

What it is formulated to do:
Give your highlight a dose of skincare. Inspired by Marc Jacobs’ love of coconut water and the glow of youthful-looking, radiant, well-hydrated skin, this gel-cream instantly lights up the complexion. Directly highlight skin or blend this concentrated luminizer with foundation and primer to transform them into illuminating elixirs. A little goes a long way: This gel highlighter builds for the ultimate sheen, and the sensual, golden-peach hue flatters all skin tones with warm radiance. It’s formulated with five forms of coconut and provitamin B5 to help hydrate and nourish skin.

That description from Sephora pretty much sums it up anyway, but this is a liquid-thick cream-gel hybrid type highlighter that is very intensely pigmented. With a controlled amount of deposition, you can easily use a sheer layer or you can build it right up. The way to use it is three fold – either use it mixed in with your primer or foundation or any base like BB/CC creams to amp up the glow factor. Or, use it as a traditional highlighter that you would use on all the usual areas of the face. I treat this as a liquid highlighter – meaning I use this before I use any powders. You could use this after your liquids but I did find that sometimes it tended to bunch up and look a touch cakey. It might be doing that with only a certain combination of foundation/powder, but I’d rather not have to tweak what I use for my base and instead use this highlighter as my liquid highlighter. Not that you need to, but you can easily layer a powder highlighter on top of this to amp up your bling factor.

The color is a gorgeous universal shade. I think that the palest to the deepest could wear this shade – it is that pretty standard golden peachy shade that is very wearable and suits almost any skin tone under the sun.

There is no glitter in this product whatsoever. The glitter you’re seeing at the top of my arm is from a previous eye shadow swatch I was doing that particular day. No editing or filtering done on this swatch.

The longevity is fantastic and of course, that longevity can be increased by layering a powder highlighter over it.

Marc Jacobs Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter – Final Thoughts

Overall, this has been one of my favorite products of the year. I love the versatility of it, I’m a huge fan of Marc Jacobs makeup in general, it’s luxurious, looks gorgeous, and is definitely well worth the splurge.

I did get this product from Influenster months and months ago – in March of this year I think. So obviously I’m not obligated to do this post but I really did want to bring the spotlight back on this product and maybe encourage you to check out your own stashes before splurging on new and perhaps unnecessary highlighters. Ahemm, who am I preaching to here? I myself just bought two other powder highlighters recently sighh. The life of a makeup addict. So tough 😛

Apologies for the rather quick post. There really is nothing else to say about this product other than that it’s fantastic. If you’re interested, I’ll post links to a few other blog posts down below where I’ve reviewed more highlighty, glowy products. Hope you’re gearing up for the holidays and you’re surrounded with loved ones this season xx

Stay beautiful,

This is on my wish list. It looks amazing. I love products that have a sheen without any chunky glitter xxx

Me too! This is so well formulated, I don’t know how they’ve made it so sheeny without an ounce of glitter in it. Definitely worth the price tag on this one. A little will go a long long way 🙂
