Maybelline Master Chrome Highlighter Review

It’s almost pointless to review this highlighter at this stage. Because basically everyone and their mama knows this is one of the best launches the drugstore has seen this summer. And as far as highlighters go, this is easily in people’s top 5 highlighters including drugstore, high end and everything in between. I myself feel like skipping all the details and just telling you the spoiler alert –  the Maybelline Master Chrome Highlighter is one of the BEST highlighters ever. Period. Let’s talk about why.

Maybelline Master Chrome Highlighter Review – Packaging

The packaging is nothing extraordinary. It is just plain drugstore type packaging – a black plastic container, with a plastic lid. It’s not luxurious by any means, but it’s not horrible either.

Maybelline Master Chrome Highlighter Review – Product

Maybelline Master Chrome Highlighter

Shade: The official long title of this highlighter is – Maybelline Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter by Facestudio. Note the word metallic. Another key point – the shade name is called Molten Gold (there is only one shade). That basically sums up this product. It is a metallic, super intense deep molten gold highlighter. It is not a light gold, champagne gold, bronze gold or any other variant. It is honestly pure golden goodness. Is the shade universal? By NO MEANS. Is it a good shade? Hell yes! I lucked out because this highlighter suits my skin tone perfectly. Anyone who is in the medium/medium deep all the way to the dark spectrum will be able to rock this highlighter. Anyone who is pale probably won’t consider this as a highlighter for their skin tone. As a first product launch, I think this is a great shade to have come to the drugstore. But they definitely need to bring more so that more people can enjoy the formula instead of just buying it and having to use it as an eye shadow or whatever.
Formula: The formula is one of the best I have seen. It is one of those suuuuper creamy formulas but it is not really a cream because this is a powder highlighter. For example – when you touch this highlighter it literally feels cool and creamy. Completely unlike a powder. However, it looks and applies like a powder. It is definitely not for people faint of heart – if you are looking for a subtle highlighter, this is definitely not it. It is ultra richly pigmented and shows up blindingly on the face. In the picture below, I have swatched two of the Milani Strobelight highlighters with the Maybelline Master Chrome highlighter. Compared to the shade Sunglow from Milani (second from top), the Maybelline one (topmost) is quite deeper even if the swatch isn’t showing it to the full potential. But basically, the two shades are pretty much dupes; so if you have one shade you don’t need the other. However, the formulae are different. The Milani highlighters are purely powder formula, they’re a touch less blinding than the Maybelline one. The Maybelline one is pure pigment pretty much.

Apart from the pigmentation, another great thing about this highlighter is that it looks beautiful on the skin. It doesn’t look chunky or glittery. Because of that creaminess in the formula, it looks super smooth on the skin. Now of course, no matter how much people on Youtube like to say that some highlighters don’t emphasize texture, I believe that just based on pure science, anything that is light reflective like a highlighter is obviously going to showcase and highlight everything on the face – textures, pores and everything in between. But yes, compared to other highlighters that may be chunky and glittery, this doesn’t make the imperfections on the skin stand out too much. Along the same lines, a soft highlighter like the Essence one may not emphasize the textures on the skin,  but then that is because that one is much softer and more subtle and not as blingy as say this Maybelline one. Just something to keep in mind. The Maybelline highlighter has fantastic longevity, you won’t see it disappearing off of your face immediately. You can still tell you have highlighter on after say 8 hours of wearing makeup for the day.

The highlighter retails for $9.99 on Ulta, and retails for cheaper at both Walmart and Target at $7.99 (if a drugstore product is available at Walmart, usually get it from there because it is almost always the cheapest at Walmart. Unless you don’t like shopping at Walmart. In that case, don’t.) I’ll link the Target availability here. Left to Right in the picture below are: Milani Strobelight highlighters in Afterglow, Sunglow, and Maybelline Master Chrome highlighter in Molten Gold. These are basically some of my favorite highlighters ever (Wet n Wild highlighters would also be included in the list of fave highlighters).

That’s it loves! I hope you enjoyed this review of the new Maybelline highlighter. Honest to goodness, I cannot put across emphatically enough exactly how fantastic this product is. You’ll just have to get it and see for yourself. For $8 bucks, it literally beats several high end highlighters. I’m thinking of doing a favorite drugstore highlighters post in a few days. I just got the Colourpop one, so once I test that out I think I’ll be well equipped to do a post like that. Let me know if that’s something you’d like. As always, thank you sooo much for stopping by. I love that you want to know my opinions on products and am always grateful. Have a fantastic week loves.

Stay Glowy,

neighha
