February Empties 2017: Mini Reviews
Hello loves!! So, today I’m discussing a few products that have been residing in my empties bag for a while. I have named this post my February empties because I neglected to write my empties for a few months this year and so I’m just starting from where I left off. Alrightt, let’s get started.
February Empties: Haircare
Lush Roots Hair Treatment
Lush Roots is a hair treatment that is targeted for people with fine thin hair. HELLOO UNIVERSE. No one embodies the fine, thin hair persona quite like me. So I am always alwayss looking for ways to volumize my limpy locks. Roots is supposed to be a scalp treatment that helps to create a healthy base for the hair to grow on and helps with the volume and shine of your hair. Umm I’m not a 100% sold on this product. I mean it was good while it lasted. It felt amazing on the scalp because this has mint in it and every time I massaged my scalp, the refreshing cooling sensation was unbeatable. But, I really don’t think this did much for my hair. Volume or shine wise. Now here’s the thing. I have been growing my hair out for a while now and it’s grown longer and quite thicker than I have previously ever experienced. So I don’t know if it is this product that helped, or if it was my strict ‘twice a week shampoo only’ regime. I suspect it was the latter. Because I have been out of this stuff for a while and my hair has continued to show improvement despite the lack of this product in my routine. Overall, I think this is more of a long term hair health product rather than an instant results kinda one.
Would I repurchase? – In time I suppose. This retails for $23.00. Right now, with the way things are going with my hair, I don’t think I need this atm.
1. Scent: I cannot quite describe it, but the scent of this dry shampoo is amazing. I doubt that there is anyone that would not like this smell. However, those of you who are sensitive to fragrances and maybe they give you headaches, you might want to stay away from this one.
2. White Cast: One of the biggest selling points of this dry shampoo is that it has a ZERO white cast. I mean, it doesn’t have the slightest white chalkiness when sprayed on to your hair. Which is why this would be perfect for those busy women who need fast acting, no fuss products in their lives.
3. Oil Absorbancy: This dry shampoo doesn’t do as good of a job of oil absorbancy as the Batiste one does. That doesn’t mean it’s unable to absorb oil at all; it just means that I would probably restrict its use to first or second day hair.
4. Volume and/or Texture: Here is why this dry shampoo has taken up holy grail status for me right next to my Batiste one. This dry shampoo gives good volume, but not as much as the Batiste one, atleast for my hair. BUT. This dry shampoo gives your hair the most amazing texture, and SHAPE. It somehow manages to make your hair look tousled, textured, sexy, beachy, wavy and shapely all in one fell swoop. This is incredible! P.S The spray nozzle on this bottle is really well made-the product comes out as a beautiful, uniform mist.
The slightly lesser volume giving ability is what makes this dry shampoo come in second to my Batiste one. This is a very inexpensive product nevertheless considering how good it is. Retails for $9.19.
February Empties: Makeup
My absolute favorite brow pencil of life is the L’Oreal Brow Stylist Definer. I have tried a few different brow pencils here and there. But none of them have come even remotely close to how good this pencil is. And I am a thorough pencil fan. It is the easiest form of brow doing for me as opposed to powders or pomades or whatever. The minuscule tip is perfect for precise detailing of the brows. The consistency of this is absolutely PERFECT. It is the perfect ratio of dry, not overly waxy, perfectly pigmented yet not overly so. Just the right amount of product gets deposited on the brows. This is one of the products I have used religiously every single day. Which is why it is in my empties, because I usually never have any empty makeup products. Imagine quick, perfect and amazingly natural brows every time and this product will give it to you. The spoolie on this is also amazing. I have heard that this is a spot on dupe for the ABH brow wiz which I’ll be able to test soon and report back on. The L’Oreal Brow Stylist Definer is so affordable that no matter how much you run through this, you can repurchase easily and not break the bank. The only possible con of this is the limited color range.
Miscellaneous: This retails for $9.00 more or less depending on where you buy it from.
February Empties: Bodycare
Bath and Body Works Ginger Bread Latte Body Lotion
You guys already know by now how much I love these body lotions. Like I say in every empties post of mine, I always have at least one of these to show you. So I’m not going to talk about the formula. If you just search my site with the words bath and body works, a ton of info on this should show up. But let’s talk about this scent. I am not sure how I feel about this fragrance. I got this during last fall/winter since the name itself screams like a fall/Christmas scent. This smells very much of sweet cookies and something you’d smell at the mall when you shop there during the winter months. I typically don’t go for these scents, but somehow I picked it up and I absolutely loved it. However, every time I wore it after a shower and I’d go to school or something, I’d get a couple of people saying the scent was too sweet. So I suppose not many people liked this scent on me, and admittedly, even I do think it’s a tad on the sweet side. I would definitely not wear this at any time other than winter months because it would just get too sickeningly sweet during summer. So would I repurchase? Maybe not. Again, scents like these cinnamon, ginger bread ones are very personal – some people love them some don’t. It just depends on your preference I suppose.
Miscellaneous: Like I said, this particular scent was from their winter collection so it is out of stock now. But their lotions retail for $12.00 and I never pay full price. I always stock up when they have the $3.00 lotion sales.
Tree Hut Shea Sugar Scrub in Almond & Honey
This is another one of my recurring faves. I use one of these tubs up every couple of months. So I couldn’t not mention it in my February empties too. Again, I have loved and raved about the formula of these in the past. These are the perfect body scrubs. I hate scrubs that are too soft and not gritty enough. Because then what is the point of me taking the time out to scrub my body instead of just using my usual loofah you know. They eliminate the need for buying any high end scrubs. They have the perfect consistency where they have a great amount of grit but they’re not so gritty that they hurt your skin. These Tree Hut tubs are ginormous and are extremely affordable. I have tried a few different scents in the past, and I have to say, this almond scent is not my very favorite. It smells a little bit like bitter almonds which I’m not a fan of. Would I repurchase? Oh absolutely! Just in a different scent.
Miscellaneous: These giant 18 oz tubs retail for in and around $7.00 depending on where you get them from.
February Empties: Dental
Patanjali Dant Kanti Dental Cream
I know it is a bit odd to share a toothpaste in my February empties, but I wanted to talk about this one specifically. This is a brand that is quite popular in India. This particular toothpaste is so special because it is completely vegetarian and made of a concoction of 26 herbs! I do use the normal colgates and oralbs and stuff, but every chance I get, I try to use a more ‘natural’ (I’m using that word loosely) toothpaste. Repurchase? Yes, every time some one comes over from India, I ask them to get a couple of these for me. You can get this on eBay for like 2 or 3 bucks. I highly recommend you check it out.
February Empties: Food
Nescafe Classico Instant Coffee
This next category of the February empties is going to be a couple of food related items. I am very predictable and boring when it comes to my coffee. But that’s how I like it. The only coffee I well and truly love and the only one I ever drink at home is the Nescafe classico. I am not big on hot coffee and I don’t own a coffee maker. So instant coffee is my jam because I always drink cold coffee no matter what. If you’re like me and haven’t yet tried this one, I highly recommend you do. It’s nothing special by any means but it is literally my bread and butter so to speak.
Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt and Roasted Almonds
Honestly, I empty at least five of these bad boys each month. And I never share it. So I thought I’d give this a shoutout in my February empties. I freaking love this chocolate. It has to be hands down one of my favorite chocolates ever. First of all, anything dark chocolate is right up my alley. Add in some nuts and sea salt, and you couldn’t have made a better chocolate for me. Seriously, if you guys haven’t tried this version, pleaseee do. Even some friends of mine who don’t particularly like dark chocolate like this.
Miscellaneous: Retails for $2.00 a piece.
Okay my loves! I apologize if the post was a bit too long. I always get a little carried away in my empties. I fact, I have so many more products I could have put in, but I’ll just save those for the next post. I hope you enjoyed taking a peek at my February empties. Let me know what you guys think about some of these products. Thank you for taking the time out to read the post, you know I always appreciate the support. Until the next one …
