January Empties: Mini Reviews 2017
Hi loves! Yes, you read it right. The title does say JANUARY empties. Ever since December of last year, I’ve been struggling to keep up with my empties posts. I used to love writing them on a regular basis. However, I wasn’t noticing much enthusiasm among my readers for the empties posts, so I kind of slowed down a little. For whatever reason, I just got this urge to sit and write an empties post again. Because I realized that, at the end of the day, I’m doing this as a hobby, for me and as a way to track the insane number of products I try. So I decided to continue my empties from where I left off. So, with all that said, I hope you’ll stick around 🙂
January Empties: Haircare
I absolutely love this shampoo! It’s all natural and sulfate free and yet it is so good at thoroughly cleaning my hair. I love the volume and bounce I get from this and I feel a little better every time I shampoo knowing that I’m using a product with good ingredients in it. Oh and it smells very herbal-ly as well. Only con is that you have to use quite a bit of product at a time or else you won’t get the desired amount of lather (due to the absence of harmful sulfates). But, it still lasted me a long time. I bought it in June of last year I think. Of course I had other shampoos rotating as well. This may be just in my head, but I could swear that ever since I ran out of this, my hair hasn’t been the same. It is not as healthy, it feels drier and less nourished.
Miscellaneous: It retails for $10.00. It is very affordable in my opinion, and to top that off, Ulta is always doing sales on this brand. I think I personally got this for around 6 USD. I do have a few shampoos to get through right now, so in the interest of minimalism, I won’t repurchase this just yet. But I definitely do want to eventually!
January Empties: Bodycare
If I were ever sure of something, it’s that I always have at least one BBW body lotion in my empties. Some may call it boring, I call it essential. I absolutely love their body lotions, especially during summer. I know my January empties wouldn’t be authentic without one of these in here. The consistency is light, yet moisturizing, completely non greasy and immediately sinks in. I love using this right after a shower when my skin feels parched and is in desperate need of lotion. So formula aside (because it’s great), let’s talk about this particular scent. I freaking loved this scent so much! This fragrance is part of the summer collection I believe, so in fact, at the time of writing, this is available. I am a huge fan of floral scents. Now I wish I could pretend to describe it to you but I’m just going to give you the notes of this. It has notes of : sun-kissed daisies, sweet lemon, mara strawberry, golden honeysuckle, and sunshine musk. Needless to say, it smells absolutely divine.
Miscellaneous: This originally retails for $12.50. I have never bought BBW lotions full price. So wait for one of their $3 lotion sales or something. I already have backup bottles in different scents.
EOS gained a lot of popularity over their cute little egg shaped lip balms. While I did not like those at all, I love their hand lotions. Love how compact and travel friendly these EOS hand lotions are. They come in a range of nice scents. I used up the cucumber scent. I love that they are not an overpoweringly scented lotion – the scent is always fresh, light and lovely clean. I always have one in my handbag and I love how hydrated it made my hands. I will say this though, for someone who has really dry skin, you may need something better than these lotions. For example, I think this is a perfect day time hand cream. You put this on, a burst of fresh fragrance will adorn your hands, it will sink in immediately and the moisture will last about 3 hours before you’ll want to reapply. In my case, I’ll have surely washed my hands in a span of 3 hours so I end up reapplying anyway. I love that these are inexpensive and little enough to carry around in your handbag. I have already repurchased this in a different scent. Highly recommend. In addition to this, EOS is also an ethical brand. They don’t test on animals, and they don’t use petroleum in their ingredients. Can’t ask for much more.
Miscellaneous: These retail for around $2-3.00 and can be found at most drugstores.
January Empties: Skincare
I have been a fan of the Creme Shop brand sheet masks since a good 6 months now. I usually almost always find them at my local TJ Maxx and there’s always a different variety available. So once I started liking them, I now always go back into TJ Maxx for more. The one I’m reviewing today is the Chia Seed sheet mask.
1. The fit is okay, not the best
2. The mask is super saturated with serum, so no complaints there
3. The material is a cellulose sheet mask. So it feels more like a cloth than a paper consistency.
4. The essence is quite sticky and has a hint of oil. For this reason, this would be perfect for nighttime because of the immense nourishment it provides.
5. It dries out after a solid hour. Which means I can make full use of the one hour and leave it on my face and I get the maximum benefit of the mask.
6. When I’m done using this, my face feels very moisturized which I suppose is the main function of a sheet mask. The beautiful packaging gets bonus points. Overall, I really like this mask. I would definitely repurchase. Again, I have more masks from the same brand to get through before I go back to repurchasing.
Miscellaneous: This retails for $4.00 each on the website, or a pack of 5 is for $12.00. However, if you get this from TJ Maxx, you can get the pack of 5 for only $5.00!!!
Now let’s talk about an awful mask! Granted that this mask is very cheap, only for a dollar, but I still wouldn’t repurchase it. I first got attracted to it because of the name – of course. It has choc chip in the name, how could I not? However, this is one of the most awful scents I’ve ever had the displeasure of smelling. I don’t know why, but I just absolutely hated the smell. On top of that, the mask itself isn’t anything special. It is weird and chunky. If I’m going to be taking the time out from my day to use a mask, it better perform well. I just have nothing more to say about this. No repurchase.
Miscellaneous: The retails for $1.37 and can be found at places like Walmart.
Another mask from the same brand in my January empties is this Manuka Honey peel off mask. First of all, I enjoy the fact that this is a peel off mask. That immediately brings a factor of convenience into the equation. This mask is the texture of honey when it comes out, and you have to smear it on your face. Be careful not to get it in your eyebrows or sideburns or anything like that. Because once it is dry and you are ready to peel it off, it can get messy in your hair. The main effect I see from this mask is brightening. Again, this is a mask, so those effects are always going to be temporary. If your skin is looking dull or you need to prep for an important day or night event, this could be a good thing to use prior to that. I do think that this doesn’t moisturize my skin enough, so it is extremely important to follow up and complete your face routine of serum and moisturizer after this. You don’t want your skin to dry out and wake up the next day with weird flaky skin. All in all, it is a nice mask. Nothing I would ask you to run out and get. But if you ever see this around, definitely don’t hesitate to pick one up and try. I would repurchase.
Miscellaneous: This retails for $1.99 so super duper inexpensive. It can be found at Ulta, Walmart etc. in the United States.
Last piece of business for the January empties. To start with, this product is now discontinued. It took me a while to finish this bottle of cleanser and by the time I did, this is now not sold anymore. So I’ll keep the review short. I loved this cleanser. I know there is lots of controversy when it comes to drugstore cleansers and their ingredients. I admit, when I bought this, I didn’t know much about ingredients and what not. And now, I’m just not bothering to do my research since it is discontinued anyway. With that said, I absolutely loved this cleanser. It paired perfectly with my Foreo and I always had a good skin day after using this product. It did exactly what is said on the bottle – it brightened dull skin. Considering how inexpensive this was, I hadn’t been expecting much from it but it surprised me for sure. BTW. This does have SLS. So like I said, I wouldn’t repurchase this now knowing what I know about ingredients – SLS is bad for the skin. But the science aside, my experience of actually using the product was very positive. It had to be – considering I used up an entire 8 oz bottle of cleanser.
Miscellaneous: I don’t remember what it retailed for. They now have a new cleanser that replaces this one.
