Living Proof Restore Hair Care Review
Hello loves! It seems like I am on a hair care roll lately. My second to last review was on the new L’Oreal Extraordinary Clay Hair line which I will link here if you’d like to browse that. But today, we are talking about some products that I have tried from the Living Proof Restore hair care line. We’re going to the discuss the shampoo, conditioner, mask and the newest member – the perfecting spray from this line. So let’s get right down to it shall we?
Before we start, I’d like to point out my hair type. I have extremely fine, thin, slightly wavy mostly straight hair that is on the dry side and flat side. So I’m always looking for either hydration, volume, body, thickening or all of the above.
Living Proof Restore Hair Care – Shampoo
I have a deluxe sample size of this shampoo and I’ve been using it for the past month. Considering I wash my hair about twice a week, that translates to me using this for almost 8 times. So now that I have given the shampoo a proper test, I can finally gather my thoughts. I LIKE this shampoo, I DON’T LOVE it. It has a decent smell; not too bad but definitely nothing heavenly. The consistency is quite silky and silvery in color. If you are a Harry Potter fan, then you’ll know exactly what I mean when I say the texture and look is like unicorn blood 😀 As far as what it actually does, I don’t think this is something I would rave about. It is nice, it cleans the hair and doesn’t strip it. But that’s about it. I don’t find this to be particularly hydrating or nourishing, which is what this entire line from Living Proof is based around. I have used a few drugstore shampoos that I find do more for me than this. So while it was nice, I’m glad I got to try this first because I wouldn’t want to spend my money on a full size of this.
Miscellaneous: An 8 oz bottle of this retails for $28.00. You can find it at several stores.
Living Proof Restore Hair Care – Conditioner
I have almost the same feelings about the conditioner. It is nice, but it is nothing to write home about. I have no problem spending a little more on shampoos if they actually do something special for my hair, but conditioners are a different story. Like I mentioned, I wash my hair about twice a week. On at least one of those two occasions, I like to treat my hair. I usually like to use masks or treatments instead of conditioners except when I’m in a rush. So I already don’t see much point in having a conditioner that is just meh. To me it’s a waste of time and money. I didn’t find that this conditioner nourished my hair as much as I would like it to, especially factoring in its price. Again, my $3 Aussie conditioner from the drugstore does the same, if not a better, job at conditioning my hair. And for that reason, I wouldn’t purchase this again.
Miscellaneous: Same as the shampoo, an 8 oz bottle of this retails for $28.00. You can find it here.
Living Proof Restore Hair Care – Mask Treatment
Like I just mentioned above, I am really into masks and treatments for my hair since my hair is perpetually dry. Cutting right to the chase – I did NOT like this. This product has some seriously tall claims in the company’s description of it. It claims to get your hair 20X stronger, shinier, healthier blah blah in two weeks. Umm, NO. I’ve used up the entire deluxe size that I had which gave me about 5 uses. And it didn’t do much for my hair. Again, it wasn’t bad or horrifying or anything. Just disappointing. Sometimes if a conditioner is meh, I can look past that. But a hair mask is supposed to be a super deep, extremely nourishing treatment for the hair. Which means it should work on the driest of hair and slowly start to restore it. This mask didn’t do that. And keep in mind that I don’t have coarse hair. In fact, I have very fine hair, which means it should be an easy-peesy job for any deep conditioner to get right down to business. But unfortunately, I don’t think this worked for me. Another major let down is the consistency of this product. It is not as smooth and emollient and creamy as you would expect a hair mask to be. In fact, it is slightly hard and doesn’t have much slip (despite being applied to damp hair). The fact that it is difficult to spread the product around could be a contributing factor to its inefficacy. Factor in its VERY high price, and you’ve got yourself a dud product.
Miscellaneous: The full size retails for a whopping $42.00. You can find it here.
Living Proof Restore Hair Care – Perfecting Spray
Just when you were about to click out thinking I was going to be completely negative in this post, I’m going to tell you to stick around 🙂 The last product that I tried from this range is the Perfecting Spray. I’m going to put up a description of the product from the company itself:
“Living Proof Restore Perfecting Spray is a featherweight conditioning detangler that delivers more than just an instant boost of hydration for dry, damaged hair to look and feel healthier. Restore Perfecting Spray provides:
- Natural shine
- Time-released conditioning
- Natural body
- Heat protection up to 400F
Restore Perfecting Spray is ideal for all hair types. It is silicone-free. Safe and formulated for color and chemically treated hair.”
So I really really like this spray. I’ve been enjoying getting out of the shower and spraying this on to my damp hair. On most days, my hair seems to really respond to the detangling properties of the spray, plus I love that this doubles as a heat protectant if I’m going to be heat styling that day. This spray is so easy and convenient to use, and I love the mist on this. It is a such a nice light spray; doesn’t feel sticky, gooey, crunchy or leave a residue on the hair. It is completely invisible and just brings some life back into the hair after you’ve just stripped it from all the cleaning. All in all, I am definitely enjoying this product. And I have a full size of this so I’m good for a while before I have to make up my mind about repurchasing it.
Perfecting Spray- Yeah!
That’s it loves! I hope you enjoyed the post reading up on some of the products from Living Proof. If you wanted my recommendation, I’d say definitely go for the perfecting spray. Time for a disclaimer – I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes. But as you can clearly tell by my 75% negative review, receiving a product for free doesn’t sway my opinion. I hope you’ll stick around for the next post and thank you so much for taking the time to read. Until next time ..
