October Empties: Mini Reviews 2016
There is literally only a chunk of time left before we’ll all be celebrating and welcoming a new year. Isn’t that crazy? I feel like I need more time to achieve something this year, because so far, it’s looking bleak haha. As worse as my fitness was this year, my beauty discoveries are still going strong. So let’s talk about some products that I used up in the past few weeks in today’s October empties post.
October Empties: Green Theme
Simple Micellar Cleansing Water
I love micellar waters. I think they are one of the best beauty inventions especially for people who are always on the go and don’t necessarily have time to do a full double cleanse type of skincare routine especially in the mornings. Micellar waters are very time-saving in the sense that you just have to put them on a cotton pad and swipe and go. You don’t have to rinse your face with water after. I’m sure there are several good micellar waters out in the market, but I’ve been a long time user and fan of the Simple Micellar Cleansing Water mainly because it is super effective, affordable and easily accessible. I have a full in depth review of this which I’ll link here and here for your reference. This is probably the fourth bottle that I’ve used up this year.
Miscellaneous: A 6.7 oz bottle of this retails for $7.99 at Ulta (more or less depending on where you purchase). CVS usually does some kind of deal on Simple skincare so maybe check that out.
Bath and Body Works Body Lotion in Sonoma Weekend Escape
Regular readers of my blog , please forgive me for having a ton of repeat products in my empties posts. But really, I always believe that that’s how you know a product is really a person’s favorite when it keeps recurring in their loves list. So anyway, I always have at least one body lotion from BBW and this month is no exception. Their body lotions are really good- moisturizing, quick to absorb and the best part is the variety of scents they do. I don’t exactly know how to describe this scent but I bought this from their summer collection almost a year and a half ago and I seriously loved the scent. Summer, fresh, floral and clean all in one. In case you wanna read a little bit more of how many times I’ve reviewed BBW body lotions I’ll link some here, here and here. Quick side note – the body lotions are better suited for summer since they are thinner and more fluidlike. Their body butters would be suited for winter since they are thicker in consistency.
Miscellaneous: Never pay full price for BBW products. They always have tons of deals going on so save your money when you can. This particular scent isn’t available right now but get any of the body lotions and you’ll be happy.
Tata Harper Refreshing Cleanser
Possibly the most expensive product of this October empties is the Tata Harper Refreshing Cleanser. Let me start off by stating the price – this cleanser retails for a staggering $78.00! I’ll say this right now – no one ever neeeds a cleanser that expensive. Cleansers are a skincare category where even the most affordable ones available at the drugstore do a fantastic job. With that said, Tata Harper is a luxury and green beauty brand. So if that’s your jam, then by all means. I actually really loved this cleanser. The texture of this cleanser is unlike anything else I’ve ever used. It’s almost like a body cream type of consistency. It is an absolute joy to rub this luxurious cleanser onto the face. As with any good cleanser – this one definitely leaves the skin feeling soft and thoroughly cleansed. Since I only had a sample of this, I couldn’t possibly comment on the long-term benefits of this cleanser for the skin. All in all, I do suspect that this is an amazing cleanser. I just don’t know if this will ever be amazing enough for its price.
Miscellaneous: Retails for $78.00 for 4.1 oz. Available at the Tata Harper website or at SpaceNK.
Designer Imposters Primo! Fragrance Body Spray
Now let’s talk about a dud in this October empties. If you’ve walked around Walmart, then you’ve seen this brand floating around. They do small body spray bottles that are meant to smell similar to designer fragrances. The Primo body spray is meant to be similar to Giorgio. Not that I’ve smelled Giorgio, but I hated this body spray. It smells extremely powdery – straight up something our grannies or great grannies might have worn back in the day. Not much else to say about this. Definitely not going to repurchase this particular scent.
Miscellaneous: Retails for $2.98 at Walmart.
October Empties: Red Theme
The next few products in my October empties are a mixture of haircare and food items. Starting off with the haircare ..
Not Your Mother’s Way to Grow Shampoo
I’d seen in some article that this was a fantastic and affordable shampoo that could help hair grow long and strong. I did not like this shampoo for a couple different reasons. First of all, it doesn’t lather too well. I do realize that this is sulfate free which means it is better for your hair (sulfates are used for lathering purposes but are harmful for the hair). However, I have used a few different sulfate free shampoos that are very good in the lathering department (the Pacifica Kale Shampoo is a great alternative). Second of all, I did not find that this shampoo did anything special for my hair. It didn’t lengthen or strengthen my hair. Overall this shampoo was okay enough to use, but I won’t be repurchasing.
Miscellaneous: Retails for $4.84 at Target so definitely good if you’re looking for a basic, sulfate-free, affordable shampoo.
Sexy Hair Style Sexy Hair 450 Blow Out Heat Defense Spray
Longest product title ever or what? I received this blow out spray/ heat protectant in an Ipsy goodie bag and it is one of those things that I am so glad I got introduced to because of the bag. I absolutely love this spray. In fact, I’m almost wishing that I didn’t have so many other styling products because then I could go out right now and buy this product again. You’re supposed to spray this on damp hair and then blow dry the hair. Every single time you use this, it makes your hair soo extremely shiny! and smooth! and touchably soft! and even voluminous! And the fact that this is also a heat protectant just makes this product my absolute holy grail. If you’ve been looking for a new heat styling product, look no further. I’m waiting to finish up some of my excess hair product inventory and I will definitely repurchase this.
Miscellaneous: This retails for $18.95 for 4.2 oz. Not drugstore pricing, but not too expensive either considering how well it performs. I definitely think this is worth the cost. This can be found at Ulta.
Novex Brazilian Keratin Extra Deep Hair Care Cream
Last beauty related product of the October empties is this Novex deep conditioning haircare cream. This is another product that I got in my Ipsy bag that I ended up loving and using to death. This is a pre-shampoo type of treatment that you’re supposed to massage into dry hair and then rinse. I actually didn’t use it like that. I used this as I would a regular conditioner. However, this cream is so potent and so nourishing, that you must be careful to use only a little bit of product. I would take a little amount and apply this to my shampooed hair and leave it on for maybe 5-10 minutes. You will not believe how much this product is a dry-hair savior. This would be an excellent product for anyone suffering from dry, dehydrated, malnourished hair so to speak. The only con is that even though Novex as a brand is sold at Ulta, this particular product is very hard to get a hold of unless you get it from like eBay or something.
Miscellaneous: This retails for $7.99 for 3.5 oz on eBay.
Hungry Buddha Smokin’ Sriracha Coconut Chips
I am a person who is hopelessly, desperately addicted to the unhealthiest snacks ever – namely funyions, cheetos etc. So I figured I should start behaving like a responsible adult and eat better. So to satisfy my craving for crunchy foods, I found these healthy coconut chips at my local HEB. And believe me, I went back to eating my hot cheetos the very next day. The coconutty-ness of these chips was that really fake kind- the kind of flavor that I actually hate. It might be just my personal preference, but I did not like the taste of these whatsoever. Not to mention, these are bloody expensive for the tiny amount that they give you (natural products usually are more expensive but still). And these are not chips – they are more like coconut flakes. Not repurchasing.
Miscellaneous: I won’t bother linking these because online they show up super expensive than in store. If you wanted to try these, you could find them at your local health food store.
Alrightyyy guys! I hope you enjoyed reading up on a few of my October empties products. I am dying to have long beauty chats with someone. So pleasee, if you’ve tried these products or have questions/comments about any of these, leave them down below or on my Instagram (@neighha).
