Drugstore Makeup Haul: May 2016

I am back at it again with another drugstore makeup haul. The past couple of months I have been constantly testing and trying out new drugstore makeup. I think I’m learning more and more about what’s good and what’s not in a product, and hence I am more inclined to write about these hauls and give mini reviews if I’ve already tried some of the makeup.

Drugstore Makeup Products:
  • Elf Blush Palette in Dark

This blush palette from ELF has gotten so much hype on the Youtube and Blogosphere I can’t even begin to tell you. However, I must say, this deserves every minute of the hype it gets. These blush palettes from ELF are a true drugstore makeup gem. They come in two shade ranges I believe, there’s one for lighter skin tones and the one I’ve hauled is for darker skin tones. I have already used these a couple of times, and oh my god! First of all, the colors are incredibly beautiful. I don’t own any colors like these in my collection. It comes with three matte shades and one shimmer shade. I know many people are put off by the idea of a shimmer blush; I personally love that they included a different formula option in here. On days when I don’t want to wear blush highlight separately, I can just wear the shimmer shade from this palette and it’ll give me some color plus luminosity on my cheeks. Love love love! Btw, I really do love the sleek black packaging and I want to give a huge shout out to them for including a mirror in such an affordable palette.
Miscellaneous: As is typical with ELF, this palette is not expensive whatsoever. It retails for $6.00 at CVS. But wait, it gets better. I actually got this for FREE in CVS. I played it smart- used some of my CVS extra bucks rewards and got this entire palette for free. If you guys haven’t checked out the rewards program at CVS, do look into it.

  • Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor
Revlon did an amazing job with these! I have only worn one of the colors once, but I immediately fell in love. The color I tried on was Passion which is the redder of the two shades pictured above. This particular shade is so gorgeous I can’t describe it. It is unlike any other red I’ve worn. As far as colors go, the range is beautiful. There is something for every skin tone. I have a tan complexion, and so I went with the more deeper shades. However, there are some nudes in the collection as well. I hope they come out with a ton more colors. Formula wise, these are a hybrid of a liquid lipstick. Hybrid in the sense that they are supposed to be a liquid lipstick, but these are a bit more hydrating than your average liquid lipstick. For the same reason, these are also not entirely budge-proof, they might wear off quicker than a traditional lipstick. But their formula makes your lips look so dimensional and plump, much unlike the flat matte appearance a proper liquid lipstick gives. All in all, I’m a huge fan of these.
Miscellaneous: They are slightly on the pricier side for the drugstore, they retail for about $9.99 each at CVS.
  • Maybelline Color Elixirs
Sticking with the lip theme, I bought two of the Maybelline Color Elixirs. Now these are another one of those super talked about items in the world of drugstore makeup. These are supposed to be really pigmented lip gloss type of a product. I have not yet tried any of these out, but the colors I picked up were Nude Illusion and Radiant Ruby. I specifically picked these out because as summer is approaching, I want to wear more glossy lip looks. There’s not much else to report on these until I try them out. Oh oh, sidenote, the packing is beeeeautiful imo.
Miscellaneous: They retail for $8.99 at CVS. Again, make sure you use your rewards and check out their weekly ads so that you can score some discounts on these products. Each drugstore has their own system of rewards, and you should purchase these where you feel comfortable. Just always make sure to utilize whatever deals are being offered so that you don’t pay full price unnecessarily.
  • NYX Butter Gloss in Peach Cobbler
Everyone and more have raved about the NYX Butter Glosses. I had a couple of these that I received in Ipsy bags, but the colors that I received were way too pale for my skin tone. So I picked the shade up called Peach Cobbler. As the name suggests, it is a peachy color, but it’s more of a fruit punch coral peach. If this works out for my skin tone, I can already tell that it’s going to be my everyday summer color. And as with the Maybelline Elixirs, these are crazy pigmented as well.
Miscellaneous: These retail for $4.99 at CVS. CVS always has some offer going on for NYX so I always make sure to check out their deals of the week.
  • NYX Powder Blush in Cinnamon
The whole theme of this haul is to pick up items that have been hyped about on social media. This blush is no exception. The NYX powder blushes are supposed to be one of the best blushes in drugstore makeup. And I don’t know how, or who, but I remember someone on social media talking about this specific color ages ago. And I’ve had it in my to-buy list ever since then. This Cinnamon shade is so bright and peachy orange, you’d be scared to pick it up just by looking at the pan. But once it’s on your face, it obviously sheers out a bit and doesn’t make you look like a clown. And these are also supposed to be great in color payoff, so you’re really getting a bang for your buck with these. Their color selection is insane, every skin tone can find a blush suitable to them.
Miscellaneous: These blushes are now on sale for $2.50 on the NYX website. I have a feeling they are discontinuing this product, because it is no longer available in CVS or in Ulta, which is very strange. If they are really discontinuing it, make sure you pick atleast one up from the NYX website. $2.50 for a blush is a heck of a bargain!

I am so so excited to try some of these pieces out for my summer makeup. Please let me know if you guys have been shopping new makeup and if there are some things I should try.
