Haircare Haul: Drugstore 2016
It’s mid-February and 77 degrees outside. Of course I’m in Texas! 😀 I’m not complaining though. The weather is gorgeous, and my friends and I have been spending our evenings playing volleyball in the nice warm sand court. And in typical Neha fashion, whenever it’s nice outside, I chuck all school work and just sit to blog. So, that’s exactly what I’m doing today. Today’s post is going to be a haircare haul of some bits and bobs I picked up from the drugstore. This is the first haircare post I’m doing on my blog. I want to incorporate some more hair stuff in my posts, so let me know if you have recommendations or requests of things I should try out.
Starting from left to right …
- TRESemme Max The Volume Lightweight Moisturizing Lotion
Initially when I browsing this product, I was super perplexed with the words moisturizing lotion. In my mind, I’m like, did TRESemme start a skincare line? I have never really heard the concept of moisturizing lotion for your hair. So, the way you’re supposed to use this is just as you would any volumizing mousse. You take a dollop of this product and add this to your damp hair after you shower and blow dry/style as usual. I haven’t tried this one so I can’t give you my full thoughts yet. However, I am excited to try this lotion formula. Hopefully it won’t be like most mousses because they leave my hair feeling slightly greasy and crunchy. Volumizing mousses are an evil necessity for me because I have such fine, thin and flat hair. You’ll notice throughout my blog and this post, all my haircare essentials are always geared toward volume, volume, volume. Moaaaaar volume.
Miscellaneous: Bought this from CVS for $1.87 on clearance. It originally retails for around $7. One thing that worries me about it being on clearance is whether they are going to discontinue this line. That’s something to watch out for.
- Not Your Mother’s Way to Grow Long and Strong Shampoo
With styling products, I look for volumizing ones. When it comes to shampoos, I always look for volumizing, or hair strengthening, or hair growth promoting, or hair thickening… You get the gist. My hair grows at an excruciatingly slow pace, so I need all the help I can get in the hair growth department. I have read multiple articles on pinterest raving about this particular shampoo as being one of the effective ones for hair growth. I have used this once now, and of course I can’t tell you anything about how it has helped my hair grow. But, what I can tell you is I used this shampoo and did not style my hair at all after my shower. It gave my hair immense natural bounce and volume. Not hating this product so far.
Miscellaneous: I got this on a deal from Walgreens for $2.99. Its original price is $5.99.
- Not Your Mother’s Plump For Joy Thickening Hair Lifter
Everything about the name and title of this product should immediately give you a full picture of why I would have picked this up. For thickening and hair lifting purposes of course! I like the Not Your Mother’s line in general, and like I mentioned a second ago, NYM was on deal in Walgreens so I decided to pick it up. At this point in life, I have a cabinet full of volumizing, thickening, root lifting stylers. I’m planning to do a smack down of atleast a bunch of them if not all. I could even do a top 5 haircare favorites post on this.
Miscellaneous: Price is $5.99. Walgreens had a buy one get one 50% off deal which is why I got the shampoo for $2.99. Like I always emphasize, make sure to shop from the drugstore only stuff that’s on some kind of deal. It makes no sense to pay full price for these things, especially since the drugstore always has sales going on on a variety of brands each week.
- Mane ‘n Tail Detangler
Remember when I said my hair takes ages to grow? Well, I have been so extremely patient and haven’t had a haircut in months. My hair is still pretty thin and fine, but it has grown to almost past my boobs. Combine longer hair with the dryness of winter and you’ve got a recipe for the knottiest, tangliest hair of your life. Believe it or not, I have never needed a detangler in my life before this. My hair is usually pretty satisfied with just a dollop of hydrating conditioner in the shower. However, with my recent hair situation, it has become important to start trying out detanglers. This is literally the first detangler I saw when I went grocery shopping into HEB so I picked it up. I have heard about the Mane ‘n Tail brand a lot before, especially on Pinterest, but I think this is the first product I’m trying from them. And even though I’m telling you that I hauled this pretty recently, I have actually already used this a bunch of times. And I love it! It probably isn’t the best detangler out there, especially since I haven’t tried too many detanglers to begin with. However, this definitely softens my hair and makes it more manageable. The knots and kinks in my hair seem to literally melt when I put this on. And it leaves absolutely no greasy residue on your hair whatsoever. So you can go to town with this without being afraid to weigh your hair down. I really do love this product. The only semi-con might be that this takes about 30-45 seconds to start working on your hair when you first spray it.
Miscellaneous: Price point is $2.99 at HEB.
- TRESemme Expert Selection Beauty-Full Volume Mousse
The TRESemme thermal creations volumizing mousse is one of my all-time favorite mousses. No other product gave my hair as much volume and beautiful shape as this one. However, I could be wrong, but I think they re-formulated this product and it just doesn’t work the same on my hair anymore. I was absolutely devastated. This is not to say that I don’t have a bottle of it in my haircare collection. Cuz, I do. But, I picked this expert selection mousse from their new beauty-full range just so I could try something different. I have seen many youtubers do sponsored videos of this new range from Tresemme. So I don’t know if this range is actually any good. But I’m willing to give it a go. If Zoella (popular and gorgeous youtuber) is willing to put it on her beautiful hair, who am I to refute that?
Miscellaneous: Got this on a deal from CVS for $5.00. Original price $6.49.
Let me know if haircare is something you’d want me to write more about. Of course, I’ll keep you guys updated on how these products perform on my hair.
