Drugstore Haul: January 2016

It is a not a new year without new makeup! Plus, the beginning of a new semester is the perfect excuse to make a little trip to the drugstore. In today’s post, I’m going to share with you some of the things I picked up in a recent drugstore haul.

Drugstore makeup

Let’s begin with a description of the products in the top row.

  • Maybelline Fit Me Concealers
I’ll give you a spoiler right now; I absolutely love the Fit Me concealers. The moment I first tried these under my eyes, I immediately knew this was going to be that one concealer which I would actually end up finishing a whole tube of this year. It has a very light consistency, yet it performs brilliantly in instantly lifting up your under eye and covering any discoloration (dark circles) under there. If you only go out to buy one thing from the drugstore, check this out. On the downside, this range of concealers does not have a wide variety of color selection. This is a problem especially for Indian skin tones such as myself. There aren’t any ‘warm’ undertones in the shade that would match me. I can’t do much about the undertones, however, I did pick up two shades so that I could mix and match them to customize to my skin tone.
Miscellaneous: The two colors I picked up were 25 Medium and 30 Cafe. Each one retails at about $5.00 to $7.00 depending on where you buy them from.
  • Maybelline Fit Me Dewy+Smooth Foundation
The Fit Me range also has a zillion foundations. They are subdivided into two categories: the matte and poreless version and the dewy and smooth version.  I, of course, bought the dewy and smooth version because my skin is as dry as an alligator’s and matte foundations are a nightmare for me.  Unlike the concealers, these foundations have a beautiful color selection for a variety of skin colors and undertones. Here is actually a short benefits list I pulled up from Ulta’s website:
Protects with SPF 18 (for all shades except Toffee and Mocha)
Shade-true gel foundation merges with your natural tone
Darker shades specifically formulated for women of color, with no ashiness
Miscellaneous: It’s an added bonus that these have SPF in them. Unfortunately, I am the shade Toffee (*silent sobs*). Price point is $7.99 on Ulta, it can vary depending on where you buy it from.
  • Real Techniques Brushes
I bought three real techniques brushes. These brushes are extremely popular in the beauty blogosphere. Almost every youtuber and blogger owns atleast one of these brushes in their collection. I figured I would pick these up and see what the hype is all about. I will do a blog post soon of all my favorite makeup brushes. I bought these in a prepackaged set of three which is known as the Real Techniques Core Collection. It comes with a buffing brush, a pointed foundation brush and a contour brush. They have a ton of different brushes that you can buy individually as well.
Miscellaneous: This is one of the more expensive range of brushes from the drugstore. Price point is $14.98 at Walmart.
  • Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal
There’s not to much to say about this one. I have been wanting to add a nude eyeliner to my makeup collection and I’ve heard nothing but good things about this Rimmel one. I can’t wait to try it and test the shade and longevity of it on my lower waterline.
Miscellaneous: This kohl shade is called 005 Nude. Price point is $4.49 at CVS.
  • Maybelline The Buffs Lip Color
I don’t know how some women are so brave as to ‘purge’ some of the makeup products from their collection. I don’t think I could ever do that. Maybe I’m cheap. Or poor. Well both 😀 Anyway, my point is, I keep adding to my nude lipstick collection in order to find ‘the one’. This time I picked another Maybelline lipstick in the shade Untainted Spice. I highly suggest you check out this particular color. It is absolutely phenomenal.
Miscellaneous: Price point is $8.29. This one is quite expensive. What I suggest is, wait for CVS to have an extra bucks or a buy one get one offer going on for Maybelline and then you can justify picking this up.
  • Wet N Wild Lipstick
Again fueling my lipstick addiction, I added this new Wet N Wild lip color to my collection. I have hauled a few more of these and some Maybelline one’s as well in a previous post which you can check out here
Miscellaneous: These are $1.99 a piece. You cannot go wrong with this price.
  • Essie Nailpolish
I have raved and hauled and reviewed essie nail polishes many a times on my blog. I’ll like some of the posts you can read here, and here. The  colors I picked up this time were a white called Marshmallow and a nude called Mamba. I have seen how beautiful marshmallow looks on many people on instagram. However, I suppose any good white nail color would do. I’m just biased towards essie. Mamba looked like a beautiful camel nude in the store so I picked it up. I haven’t heard too many people talking about this shade so I’m excited to see if it’s a hidden drugstore gem.
Miscellaneous: Price point is $8.50. I am just waiting for the day Essie nail polishes go on sale in drugstores.

That’s it for today’s post guys. I’m feeling super pumped for the new semester. New year, new classes, new people, new makeup, and of course, the onset of spring! I hope you are just as excited for the year ahead. Have a jolly January guys!

Stay warm cuties,

neighha
