Empties: November 2015
I feel like every blogger/youtuber says this at some point, but I really do apologize for being MIA for so long. The thing is, if beauty is not your full time job, it becomes difficult to prioritize your hobby over your real life responsibilities. With that boring food for thought, let’s jump right into this month’s empties. There is something so satisfying about empyting out my empties bag each month. This is probably my most favorite type of posts to do. Pictured below are some of the goodies of this month’s empties.
- Bath and Body Works Candles
It is no secret that Bath and Body Works does some of the best candles around town. Their three-wick candles are to die for and come in such a unique collection of fragrances. Their candles always have the best packaging and are so season-appropriate it’s insane. For example, the four empty candles pictured above are Barcelona, Orange Ginger, Paris and Watermelon Lemonade from the summer collections. The landscape stickers of Barcelona and Paris make me soooo happy. When I was burning them in the house, it literally felt like I was away on a summer vacation. I have raved about these candles before, so I won’t ramble off again. As far as these particular fragrances go, Watermelon Lemonade is by far my favorite. It literally smells like you are on a South-American beach paradise sipping lemonades, not giving two hoots about anything else in the world. If a candle can make me feel like that, I’m so down for repurchasing it over and over (on sale of course ;)). The least favorite fragrance of these was Orange Ginger. It was just too warm of a scent for my taste since I’m more into fresh or floral scents.
Miscellaneous: Price point is $20.00 a pop. Don’t splurge full price, wait for a BBW candle sale.
- Veet Wax Strip Kit
As is typical of most of my empties, if I really really love something, it is bound to show up in almost all of my monthly empties post. It might be boring for some, but I’m not even a tad bit ashamed to repeatedly feature such products. The Veet Wax strip kit for bikini, face and underarms is my absolute favorite. I do still prefer hot wax, however it is too messy to do it myself and too expensive to get it done professionally here in the States ( I miss my go to waxing lady back home sighh ). So the next best option is these ready-to-use wax strips from Veet. I do have to wax every two weeks or so, therefore I can’t really back up their claim of the wax lasting 28 days. But.. I can live with that.
Miscellaneous: Price point is $5.00 – $7.00 bucks at most drugstores.
- Clear Clinic Laboratories Vanished Clear Spot Treatment
This is the Clear Laboratories vanished clear spot treatment. It is meant to be a spot treatment for blemishes. It has a doe-foot applicator which can be applied on individual blemishes. When you read the ingredients, the menthol, glycolic and salycylic acids make you think this would work well for blemishes. Unfortunately, I didn’t really find that it did anything for my skin. And I did use for quite a well, so this is not a hurried up review or anything. With that said, I am now on the hunt for a good spot treatment.
Miscellaneous: This was a sample I received from Ipsy.
- Remy Marquis Deodrant
I don’t know about these days, but back then, the Remy Marquis fragrance line was a cult favorite at home. I have a feeling this brand is more popular in the middle eastern and asian countries. I could be totally off the mark, so don’t quote me on that. Anyway, I finished up a bottle of this deodrant spray and I love it. The scent lasts on me quite a while. The fragrance has a slight masculine tinge to it that I love. This one is the red bottle (I don’t know the names of individual versions); I personally love the blue and gold bottle which is my favorite of the whole range. If you are looking for a good, inexpensive deodrant, this one is pretty nice.
Miscellaneous: Purchased from India.
- Jergens Shea Butter Deep Conditioning Moisturizer
I don’t like shea scents almost to the point of nausea, but this moisturizer has a very subtle shea scent which I really appreciate. When I was younger, and wasn’t allowed ridiculously expensive products, Jergens used to be my go-to brand for moisturizers. Jergens still does a good line of products. This one in particular was super moisturizing and for me to have finished up a bottle this quick is a very good indication of how much I liked the moisturizer. My favorite body lotions come from Bath and Body Works however, just because they do some of the most incredible fragrances. As far as formula goes, I’m not super picky, I’ll use whatever moisturizes my skin well enough.
Miscellaneous: Price point is $3.24 from Walmart.
- Fekkai Full Blown Volume Shampoo
Spoiler alert: This is one of the best shampoos I have tried from the drugstore so far. Everything about it so on point. The description says that it amplifies and invigorates limp hair. Truer words have never been spoken. If you have fine, limp hair like mine, this is a beautiful shampoo for volumizing. The scent is probably my favorite part about this shampoo. It has citrus and ginseng, which gives it the most enticing, light, fresh scent ever. The best part is that, the scent lingers in your hair for about four hours after you’ve shampooed. It is silicon free, which such an added bonus. This means that it is gentle enough for everyday use (although it is advisable to not wash your hair everyday). I cannot say enough good things about this shampoo. I’m tempted to try more shampoos from this line.
Miscellaneous: Price Point is $20.99 at most drugstores. Slightly expensive for the drugstore, but totally worth it.
- Avene Thermal Spring Water
I’m going to get straight down to it : this is just water in a fancy packaging. If you look up the product description on their website, Avene promises a lot of benefits of using this thermal spring water. I found that it literally did nothing for my skin. I felt like I was just spraying water on my face. I am happy this came in a sample from Ipsy, because I would not have been happy if I had splurged out cash on this product. However, as a general concept, it feels good to have some kind of facial mist in your bag to carry with you during summers. It gives a refreshing, soothing sensation to your skin.
Miscellaneous: Received as a sample from Ipsy.
- Tree Hut Shea Sugar Scrub
I am not too picky when it comes to body scrubs. Whenever I go to the drugstore I pretty much always pick up a scrub from the Tree Hut line. These scrubs are nice and gritty so they do an excellent job of exfoliating. They are also very moisturizing, I have never experienced dryness from using these scrubs.
Miscellaneous: Price Point is $6.48 at Walmart.
- OGX Renewing Argan Oil of Morocco Intense Moisturizing Treatment
Wow, that’s a lot of words. This is another stellar product from the OGX line. I swear, every time I try a new product from this brand, I become more and more obsessed with it. This is a very good moisturizing treatment for your hair. It is lightweight enough that it doesn’t drag your hair down, and yet effective enough that it really does deep condition your hair. So much so that, the days I use this treatment in my hair, and let it air dry, you can even see the shine in your hair through photos. It is also very pleasing in the scent department. A little goes a long way, so you don’t need to use too much product and this tub will last you a good while. I will say one thing though, this product doesn’t give your hair any long term benefits. It is more of a quick mask for your hair.
Miscellaneous: Price Point is $8.29 at most drugstores. OGX is almost always one sale, so don’t buy it at full price.
- Innisfree Capsule Recipe Pack
This is a facemask in a tub/capsule form that I purchased from Innisfree. I had always wanted to try asian skincare, and I discovered Innisfree as a brand when I was traveling with my family in Singapore. This particular type of pack was the one that was formulated with seaweed. This is a pretty unique mask in the sense that, when you apply it to the face (the jelly texture is so much fun), it heats up and you can literally feel your face getting warm. This would be an excellent mask for the winter time. I can totally imagine myself snuggled up in a onesie, watching netflix with my seaweed mask on and having a merry ol’ time. I digress. The only downside to this mask is that it does enlarge your pores when you wash it off. I think this is to be expected since the warmth tends to open up your pores. One way to remedy this would be to splash some cold water on your face while rinsing. However, I don’t know that anyone would be willing to douse their face in cold water especially during the winter time.
Miscellaneous: Price Point is $2.50 on their website.
- The Body Shop Mango Hand Cream
If you can’t already judge from the state of the tube, I beat the crap out of this tube trying to squeeze every out last drop of the hand cream. Needless to say, I absolutely laaaaaauuuu this hand cream. The formula itself is just the perfect mixture of moisturizing, hydrating, and non-greasy. I will say, for those who like super intense, super rich hand creams, this might not be your ride. However, I am a big fan of this cream if not for the scent itself. If you are Indian, you already know that the best part about Indian summers are the tons and tons of mangoes that you can consume. Now imagine that bottled into a hand cream. Oh heck yes! I’ll take a dozen. I have another hand cream in the strawberry scent and that is just as incredible.
Miscellaneous: Price Point is $8.00 for the travel size. Pretty pricey.
- Freeman Coffee and Chai Energizing Paper Eye Mask
This was another good find from the drugstore. When I read coffee and chai, I instantly gravitated towards this mask. I had never bought a mask specifically targeted for eyes, so I was pretty intrigued to try this one. If you are in college, you already know there rarely ever is a day without the constant stress of deadlines and what not. When I was working an internship, I honestly had more time to pamper myself. Now that I am back to school again, there is no rhyme or routine to my days. On one of those stressful days, I put on this eye mask, watched a couple youtube videos, relaxed and took it off in about 15 mins. I instantly saw a lift in my tired and sore eyes. This product is worth it just for the way it makes you feel.
Miscellaneous: This is only available in stores at Walmart, so I forgot the exact price, but it is around $4.00.
- I have started incorporating one or two random empties each month. This month’s random empty was the Ragin’ Cajun cajun seasoning. I am a huge huge fan of cajun seasoning. I pretty much use it in every single non-Indian dish that I cook. I’m not claiming to be a culinary genius, but I personally think cajun seasoning can make or break your dish 😀
Miscellaneous: My friends love how I cook my pasta and have tried to recreate it every time. They don’t know that this is my one and only secret ingredient. Let’s hope that they are not reading this post teeheee..
Another repeated empty is my pack of Studio Beauty cotton rounds. There is not much to say about these so I am not really dedicating a section for them. I hope you all are having a wonderful day, and good luck to everyone who’s semester finals are about to begin. May the force be with you.So long lovelies,
